Paul Dixon has secured a part-time marketing job for Disney Corp. in Minneapolis, to grow the licensing of Disney products for Target stores. He says the job is a good fit because Dixon used to be a toy buyer for Target.
His cousin and business partner, Lehman Riley, secured work as well, including a stint as an artist-in-residence this past year in a local school district. Dixon sees the jobs as a way to supplement their income, so they can continue to promote their line of educational children?s books.
Authored by Riley, the books feature Papa Lemon, modeled after their real-life grandfather, who takes the characters on a magical train back to important times in history. Founded in 2004, the company participated in the Upsize Growth Challenge in 2007.
?The book business is challenging. There are a lot of authors working,? he says. They?ve made some inroads in the home-school market, and he attended the big Book Expo America this spring, where he says he made some good contacts.
?It?s a grassroots effort,? Dixon says about selling Papa Lemon books and encouraging kids to learn about their heritage, adding their jobs are adding to their contact list. ?What it also allows me to do is network and meet more people.?
